TED via Bitt Box
TED Talks are big in the design community. I’ve never spent a lot of time checking out what the site has to offer, but I have heard lots of good things. This video inspired me to begin a new 30 day challenge.
While taking my Illustrator class, I’ve realized that I need to spend a lot more time drawing. I use that term loosely, because it’s not what most people think of when you think of drawing. It’s not the pencil and paper variety, but drawing using the computer. There is a tool in Illustrator called the pen tool. Good graphic artists are very skilled with the pen tool. I am not so skilled with the pen tool. I hate using it. The best comparison I can think of is learning to play an instrument. When you first begin to learn to read music you really have to think about what each note is, but after awhile, it becomes natural and you don’t have to think about it anymore. I guess that’s why it’s important to practice just a little bit each day. I need to spend enough time using the pen tool that it becomes intuitive to me. So my goal is to draw something on the computer every day for the next 30 days. It shouldn’t be too hard to find 20 minutes each day to do a little drawing.
I’m not going for perfection here, so I don’t think I’m going to share my drawings. I think since the objective is to just do it, I’m afraid the added pressure of sharing it might backfire. We’ll see, maybe I will share some of my drawings. Do you have something that you want to master? Want to join me for the next 30 days?
