Next to movie theater popcorn, dried herbs may be one of the most marked up items you can purchase. Making your own dried herbs from fresh herbs is incredibly easy to do. If you’ve ever grown dill, you know that it can be quite prolific. It was taking over my parent’s garden. I cut a nice handful and put it in a bowl of water to soak for about 20 minutes. I rinsed it off and dried it off with some paper towels.

Then I cut it off the stems and laid it out on a cake pan. I put it in the oven at 200° for 20 minutes. Once it was dried, I crushed the pieces with my hands.
The result did not fill much of a spice bottle, but considering the amount of dill in the garden and the cost to buy dill weed at the store, it was well worth the time and little effort to dry it myself. Do you dry your own herbs? Do you have any tips?
