Three Week Challenge

I recently decided to try out the Clean Cleanse. People that know me find this amusing. I’m certain that there have been entire years go by that I had at least one Dr. Pepper every 24 hours. It’s so good! But I’ve decided it’s time to eat (and drink) healthy. I’ve cut way back on the Dr. Pepper but have found myself consuming lots of sugar to make up for it. I swear Lofthouse Cookies have crack in them or something. If I eat one, I find myself eating several a day for weeks, until I make myself stop.

I’ve been really impressed by all the great reviews for Clean. The idea is that you remove all foods from your diet that are most likely to cause allergic reactions. Reactions you might not even notice until they’re gone. After the three weeks, you begin adding foods back to see what affects you. It’s not in my nature to do something like a cleanse, but I decided that that’s all the more reason to give it a go. So I will be taking a three week break from all the foods I love; not just Dr. Pepper, but also milk, tomatoes, bananas, peppers, coffee, and chocolate.

While I’ve been preparing to do this, I’ve been thinking a lot about how it’s just three weeks. I can surely eat healthy for three weeks! And it’s got me thinking about other things that it might be beneficial to take a break from. Shopping? TV? Facebook? And what else can be accomplished in three weeks if I make it my primary focus. Experts say that it takes twenty-one days to change a habit. What else could I accomplish if I decided to focus on it for three weeks? My plan is to begin May 31st. It is my understanding that the first three days are the hardest. I have already given up processed sugar which I think may be the hardest, but only time will tell. I plan to write once a week about what I’ve learned. I imagine I will be learning a bit about eating healthy on a budget and the challenges of changing ingrained habits, but I’ll only know for sure when I’m in the middle of it.

Wanna join me on a three week challenge? What do you want to give up? Or focus on?
